Research focus: Muscular dystrophies, neurotransmission at peripheral and central synapses, drug-receptor interaction and excitation-muscle contraction coupling; mechanisms of action of active principles isolated from plants with gastrointestinal activity and toxins.

Graduate at Biomedical Sciences from Universidade Federal de São Paulo (1971), master's (1977) and PhD (1980) at Pharmacology from Universidade Federal de São Paulo. Associate Professor and Post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics , University of Maryland, School of Medicine, USA (1983) . Post-doctoral fellow at the Departament of Physiology and Pharmacology of the University of Nagoya, School of Medicine, Japan (1996). Has experience in Pharmacology, focusing on Pharmacology on the following subjects: neuromuscular transmission and muscle dystrophy; pharmacology of plant-derived compounds with antacid/antiulcer activity, pharmacology of venoms and toxins.
